Happy new financial year!

I hope you are all doing well and feeling fresh moving into the depths of winter but staying warm. I know I have been doing a lot of cooking of late and really embracing the heavier winter foods, Lamb Shanks and Bougatsa (Greek Semolina cake) were the last ones I worked on, happy to share the recipes if you are interested.

So what has been happening in the world?

Scientific and medical think tanks are busy working on a COVID-19 vaccine. Whoever completes a successful clinical trial and takes it to the market first will be creating history. With human trials underway in Brisbane, the University of Queensland is close.

Elsewhere, people are faced with a dilemma that merits sound financial decision-making: will they apply for an early Super release knowing that there may be long-term consequences? How will they manage their personal cash flow and stay on top of their expenses and debt?

Likewise, some investors may be seeing the economic impacts of their ventures as the consequences of the pandemic begin to trickle down to more industries around the world. Having a diversified portfolio is always the best way to invest so you get the best of all sectors in the best and worst times. Have you considered the impact of putting all your eggs in one basket versus a diversified portfolio?

The end of the Financial Year means that people are busy going about their tax documents. Still, the pandemic has brought changes to the financial landscape that may change the status quo of taxation and deductions. How can ordinary people maximise their returns? What about taxes on deceased estates?

Finally, social distancing measures and limited movement protocols have caused people to retreat into their own world. And streaming platforms and gaming companies are enjoying the attention. The recent release of Netflix's The Old Guard seemed to be a good omen for the ailing traditional movie industry. And behind is a woman bent on changing how action movies ought to be made.

Despite the restrictions imposed in view of the pandemic, a flurry of activities is still ongoing. Life moves forward amidst the chaos and challenges. We take comfort where we find it. And we live because the future is hopeful.

Enjoy our selection of stories for July and don’t forget to reach out if you are keen on a few winter recipes!
